Janice Lim Hing – Birth 360, Full Spectrum Birthkeeper

My Story

My name is Janice and I am a Full Spectrum Birth Keeper. I was born in the Philippines, grew up on Turtle Island in a settler village known as Richmond, BC, and my ancestry is Chinese. I currently live and work on the traditional and unceded shared territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Tsawwassen, Semiahmoo, Qayqayt, Coquitlam, Katzie, Kwantlen, Stolo and all the Halkomelem speaking peoples.

My interest in births started when I was a child and grew from a passion for women’s health and traditional healing practices. After giving birth and becoming a mother myself, my understanding of the significance of this time for pregnant people and their families deepened and my commitment to providing informative, non-judgmental, inclusive, anti-oppressive & compassionate care grew.

In my work as a birth keeper I am influenced by the belief that how you give birth and how you are born can have a lifelong impact. When caring for people I utilize both my eastern heritage and western training to optimize physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. I value the traditional and ancestral knowledge and ways of birthing that continue to be practiced around the world and aim to provide culturally affirming support to enable pregnant people and their partners to feel confident, grounded and connected in their choices and capable in their abilities to birth and parent.

When I am not spending time with my lovely clients and their sweet little ones, I enjoy gardening, crafting, and exploring our beautiful province. I also love to travel and sit around and laugh with my family. I am constantly learning and when available attend trainings and workshops to expand my knowledge and enjoy integrating new wisdom into my practice.

I’d love to get to know you more and invite you to contact me for a free initial meeting to discuss my services further and answer any questions you might have about your upcoming birth or postpartum period.

From Birth360 Families

"Our experience with Janice was beyond our expectations. She provided valuable information and advice in our visits prior to the birth and we enjoyed the couple’s homework she gave us. It was very natural and easy to talk to Janice and our encounters felt like meeting a good old friend. We loved her calmness, her wisdom and her natural approach to birth. When the big day came (or several days in our case) she was right there with us and did not leave our side, whether in the beginning at home or later at the hospital. She was an immense help in keeping up our spirits and giving us strength in our very long birthing process. Janice was very helpful, but not pushy, when it came to decision-making. We are very grateful to have had Janice join us in this wild experience and would not hesitate to hire her again!"

"Janice was amazing! Our first impression was that she was incredibly warm, which is what we wanted in a doula first and foremost. Her services went above and beyond what we expected...house visits, answering all of our questions, providing information that we didn't receive from our prenatal class, and generally making us feel better about the crazy life event that was about to take place. I had to be induced 2 weeks early, so labour was extra hard. Janice made the days so much better, she had great suggestions for getting through labour and making it a bit less painful. We were blown away by how hands on she was, and her endurance through it all. Her presence allowed my husband to focus on being there for me emotionally, he wasn't as stressed about remembering all the things we learned about labour. And she kept both of us hydrated. Finally, the photos Janice took of our childbirth experience were absolutely amazing, she seriously has a talent for it. Highly recommend her, all around!"

"Janice and her night doula services came highly recommended to our family by our birth doula after the birth of our daughter. I had experienced an emergency cesarean and my husband was sick with bronchitis - we quickly realized we needed an extra set of helping hands for a few evenings to get us back on our feet. Janice was, without a doubt, superb. She was a calming presence for each of us, and though she would arrive each night at my daughter's "witching hour," Janice magically soothed and snuggled her into a quiet slumber in minutes. Janice has a gentle, respectful, and compassionate approach and is knowledgeable about everything from baby-wearing to swaddling to infant behavior and beyond. My daughter is now 10.5 months old and I often reflect on the time Janice spent with our family. Janice provided us with the rest and re-assurance that allowed us to enjoy the early days with our daughter - a priceless gift."

Rooted in Traditional Teachings

"Bascially, Janice is magic. .. She was warm, informative, knowledgeable, & thorough. She was great at including my husband & preschooler in conversations & instilled confidence that we were in good hands. As well, she was skilled at presenting options and ideas & was completely non-judgemental around any of our responses. I really felt like she wanted to help understand who we are as a family so that she could support the experience as we wanted/needed. . .She is so calming & reassuring & did an awesome job of making me feel completely supported & of helping me be focused. Her presence instantly changed the dynamic to one that felt way more manageable. I had several people present, & Janice was awesome at keeping everyone calm & directly gently, as needed & desired, so that everyone was able to fulfill their roles well. I know sometimes people worry that having a doula will "take away" from the job of the partner or other support person & I can say definitely that it didn't - instead it made my support people feel better able to do their jobs."
